Physical Education at All Saints School

Physical Education is an integral part of the curriculum for all year groups and permeates much of school life.  Our extensive grounds are well resourced for numerous physical opportunities, which in turn enhance our pupils’ mental well-being.  During the summer of 2024 a specialist all-weather athletics track was installed providing our pupils with a space to exercise daily as part of recreational activities and structured Physical Education lessons, fixtures and whole school events.

Our school grounds are also equipped with several purpose-built climbing and agility structures.  We take full advantage of our enviable surroundings by utilising an idyllic forest school setting, to which we have our own private access.  In the summer months, our pupils have access to the local tennis courts and also to a swimming pool in a private residence adjacent to our school building where they benefit from the teaching of specialist coaches in these sports.

As part of our 7x7 Initiative, the children work towards running for seven minutes without stopping by the time they are seven years of age.  Our athletics track provides the ideal space to persevere with this challenge daily.

In their twice weekly Physical Education lessons, all pupils from EYFS to Year Two learn skills required for sports such as football, rugby, and cricket.  They also learn to move creatively and rhythmically in Dance and Gymnastics.  Our school hall is well equipped with extensive gymnastics equipment such as wall bars, benches, mats and agility tables.

Several events take place during the year with a sporting focus such as Children in Need and the Phyllis Tuckwell Reindeer run, to name a few.  Our pupils are arranged into three Houses for whole school events or competitions, most notably our annual Sports Day, which is always a highlight!

At All Saints, we recognise that, whilst physical skills and knowledge are key, there are often opportunities to nurture other cross curricular skills such as team work and cooperation.  As such, we work hard to maximise these to ensure they are integrated seamlessly into all Physical Education lessons.

Above all else, we aim to inspire our pupils to develop a life long love of keeping physically active and healthy, in body and mind.
